As soon as you enter Ryder's Alley off of Fulton Street...
...you see garbage.
And rat traps.



And more garbage.
And more garbage.
And you even see rat traps right next to garbage.



Here is a broken surveillance camera. The people here are negligent all around when it comes to their property.
And here is a rat. He got run over by something.
And more traps.



All of this is bad enough - a state of affairs that can be seen almost anywhere around the city. But the situation is particularly sad because of the historical importance of this alley - something that Robert Sullivan brings out in his book Rats: Observations on the History & Habitat of the City's Most Unwanted Inhabitants.
