Being a vegetarian is really pretty unusual among the people I know, at least my family and neighbors. I have to have a lot of perserverance to stick to my choice in this matter. It's been two years and now that it has been this long, I don't think that I'm going to go back now. A lot of people thought is was going to be a fad with me, but I proved them wrong.
It was Gary, my fiancee, who first suggested that I become a vegetarian. He wanted someone to "go veg" with him as that was a choice he was making at the time. He felt that he wanted some support in the matter. He is a dancer and found himself becoming sluggish and stiff on his old meat diet.
Gary gave me a lot of books on health back them so I would feel comfortable with the change. I have to admit, I did not read them right away. But Gary persisted. He also got me to give up a cigarette habit I had.
I work for a small advertising agency on the upper west side. Now that I am a vegetarian, I feel like I have more energy. It also seems that I need less sleep now, even if I take a jog in Riverside Park--something I try to get a chance to do a couple of times a week.
I recently saw some pictures of some pigs in a giant confinement facility. I really had no idea about such things. I've never even seen a pig in real life. But after seeing that picture, I don't think any creature should have to live through that.
